Breitling Navitimer on rubber strap review

The Navitimer is Breitling's pilot's chronograph, first made in 1952. The bezel has a circular slide rule for flight calculations. The current B01 Chronograph uses Breitling's own calibre 01 movement, with about 70 hours of power reserve. UK prices for the 43mm steel version run from about £7,500 to £8,000, depending on strap and dial (UK retailers, 2026).
What is good
The design is one of the most recognised in watchmaking.
The calibre 01 is a strong movement with a long power reserve for a chronograph.
The rubber strap makes the watch lighter and more comfortable than the steel bracelet, and easier to wear in summer.
It costs less than the Rolex and the Omega here.
What is not good
Water resistance is only 30 metres. A rubber strap suggests a sports watch, but you should not swim in it.
The dial is crowded. With the slide rule and three sub-dials, reading the time takes a second look.
Very few owners will ever use the slide rule.
Breitling watches lose value faster than Rolex watches second-hand.
Verdict
The Navitimer looks very good and the movement is excellent. The rubber strap makes it easier to wear every day. Keep it out of the pool.
