IKEA home office review: two and a half years of use

Image: IKEA
I bought home office furniture from IKEA three times between March and August 2024. Each order cost between £440 and £1,398. I work from this office most days. This review covers the first two years.
Score: 8/10
At a glance
Smart, practical and good use of space.
Good value for money.
Assembly takes a long time.
Some surfaces scratch easily and the fittings vary in quality.
After 3 months (June 2024)
I was very pleased with the setup. The furniture looks smart, uses the space well and works well for daily work.
Assembly took a long time. Allow plenty of time, or pay for an assembly service.
After 6 months (September 2024)
Everything was holding up well. The desks and storage are sturdy enough for daily use. Some of the surfaces scratch more easily than I expected. A desk mat helps.
After 9 months (December 2024)
It was still a very practical workspace and the furniture still looked good. The quality of fittings and drawer runners varies between products.
After 12 months (March 2025)
Good value overall. There were a few small marks and signs of wear, and nothing that spoiled the office.
After 24 months (March 2026)
The furniture has aged reasonably well. Some materials feel basic. The modular design and practical storage still work well, and I can add or move pieces as my needs change. I would buy IKEA office furniture again.
Verdict so far
Good-value office furniture that has lasted well through daily use. Expect a long assembly and some surface marks. I will update this review if anything changes.
