Quooker Flex boiling water tap

Image: Quooker

A Quooker gives boiling water at 100°C from a kitchen tap. A small tank under the sink keeps the water hot. The Flex model also gives normal hot and cold water and has a pull-out hose. An extra unit called the CUBE adds chilled filtered water and sparkling water. A Quooker tap with a tank costs well over £1,000 in the UK before fitting.

What is good

  • Boiling water is ready straight away. You stop waiting for the kettle several times a day.

  • You no longer need a kettle, so you get worktop space back.

  • You have to push and turn the handle to get boiling water. This helps prevent accidents with children.

  • Quooker says the tank costs little to keep hot because it is vacuum insulated.

What is not good

  • The price is high compared with a kettle and a normal tap.

  • The tank takes up space in the cupboard under the sink, and the CUBE takes up more.

  • In hard water areas scale builds up. A filter or water softener helps.

  • You need a plumber and a power socket under the sink to fit it.

Verdict

A Quooker is a luxury that you use every day. In a busy kitchen it saves time and space. Check you have room under the sink and a plan for hard water before you buy.
